UCLA hosts live debate on Proposition 23 this Thursday evening

October 19, 2010

This Thursday evening, UCLA’s Institute of the Environment and Sustainability will be hosting a live debate on Proposition 23, co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Times, KPCC-FM (one of our NPR affiliates in Southern California), and UCLA Law’s  Emmett Center on Climate Change and the Environment.  More information on the debate, including a registration link, is here.  If you’re in Los Angeles and interested in attending, please register in advance to guarantee your seat.

Dorothy Rothrock of the California Manufacturers and Technology Association will be arguing the “yes” side; Terry Tamminen, former Cal/EPA Secretary and advisor to Governor Schwarzenegger, will be representing “no.”  Journalist Patt Morrison will moderate the debate.

After the debate, a panel of experts will engage with the debaters and moderator.  The panel includes UCLA IOES Director Glen MacDonald, UCLA economist Matthew Kahn, L.A. Times reporter Margot Roosevelt, and UCLA Law’s own Ann Carlson (my colleague and co-blogger).

Portions of the debate will be rebroadcast on KPCC — details to come.

The evening should be lively and informative.
